Kenwood Ts-2000 Serial Port Problem
Posted By admin On 19.09.19In the program options select Port Selection: Protocol: in your logbook program select the Kenwood TS-2000 protocol. Note: you cannot use a serial port for a third-party program and at the same time use it to connect to an external radio unless these programs use Omni-Rig or similar. Use one serial port per program.

Hi /r/amateurradio
I'm posting this so if someone else has the same issue, they might stumble upon this post and learn that there is a way to fix this issue with the rig.
Some of you may remember several posts I made over the last few months concerning an issue with my Kenwood TS-2000. In short, I could not get it to work in CW mode. I bought my rig for a great price from a guy in my club, and I know for a fact he never put it in CW mode (and I'm pretty sure he does't even own a key), so I don't think he had any knowledge of the issue. I plan to make CW my primary operating mode since I have a knack for it and I live in an apartment (and I ended up with a perfect CW call). So, a rig without CW mode was a rig I simply couldn't use.

I tried changing the settings, using every type of 3.5/6.33mm mono/stereo adapter with my paddle and with an external keyer. After many weeks of frustration, I asked for names of repair shops from you guys and after seeing how much they cost just for a diagnosis, I was afraid to risk spending all my money just to find out it was a problem that couldn't be fixed.
I was at my wits end, so I brought the rig over to an elmer's house who helped me determine that the issue was no power output in CW mode (all other modes were just fine). I let him keep the rig for a few weeks since I wasn't doing anything with it and he took it apart, and after many hours and consulting other hams, could not find the cause. We eventually decided the best thing to do would be to put the rig up for sale on eBay for less than I bought it, and be upfront about the issues.
Well, my elmer called me last night and told me he got it working! He said he took it apart several more times because he just couldn't stand not understanding the problem. He used an oscilloscope and found that there was no ground connection for the CW key/paddle input. So he manually made a connection to the external ground port from the key input and bingo! the rig generates a signal out when a paddle is connected. He said this was likely a manufacturing issue that happened at the factory end.
Since this was likely a factory issue, I wanted to post a follow-up in case someone else has the same trouble - I hope this post eventually saves someone much frustration and heartache. I was so heartbroken to have to sell this rig, because I had really fallen in love with it, but now all is well! (and another big thank you to anyone who helped me troubleshoot while I was still trying to diagnose the issue)
Kenwood Ts 2000 Firmware
I am trying to interface a Kenwood TS-2000 to a new Mac using MacloggerDX. I have a serial to USB adapter on the serial port running from the rig to the Mac. This worked when I had a windows pc but for the life of me I cannot get this thing to interface on my new Mac. Can someone guide me in the right direction by screenshotting the preference screen of your setup as well as any special driver that may be needed and where to find it. Google has not been my friend in this adventure.
