Honestly, that seems reasonable to me. The interesting part of this story is that the Genius Bar diagnostic tool reported her battery was completely healthy. The tech reported that her phone had 93 or 94% battery life remaining, and she didn't need to replace the battery. Given the phone's behavior, she insisted upon the repair. She also explained the coconutBattery results. In hindsight, I wish I took a photo of their software tool report. Her replacement battery is back-ordered, so perhaps when we return in two weeks to replace the battery, we'll have them run the test again for a side-by-side comparison to coconutBattery.

Most customers aren't arriving to Genius Bar appointments, armed with third-party diagnostic tool results. It's unfortunate that customers may be receiving incorrect information and recommendations to not replace their batteries. For her, this was a moot point - her phone was out of warranty, so she was paying the $29 anyway. If another customer had AppleCare+, they should have received a free battery. I wonder how many customers, with valid warranties, are paying to replace batteries that don't meet the 500 cycle / 80% charge specification?
